Serious question, and forgive my ignorance, but I know it means one or the other, I just don’t know which.

Right winged people surprisingly look down on anyone who does not have a paying job and even those mothers and Dads who work at home raising their children up right. Fatboy is right, it is harder to be a stay at home mom then go to work. I have been on both sides and I know.

From Wikipedia: “The phrase soccer mom generally refers to a white, married middle class woman who lives in the suburbs and has school age children. She is sometimes portrayed in the media as busy or overburdened and driving a minivan. She is also portrayed as putting the interests of her family, and most importantly her children, ahead of her own.”
She can work or stay at home; the term refers more to her level of involvement with her children.

A soccer mom is a mother who is involved in taking her kids to after-school activities: soccer, Boy Scouts, ballet, cheer. She can be a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, but more often, she does not work outside the home.
